Prof. Dr. Žiga Jakopin received his degree in Pharmacy in 2005 and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2010 from the University of Ljubljana (Faculty of Pharmacy, Ljubljana, Slovenia). At present he is Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy (University of Ljubljana). He did his postdoctoral work in immunotoxicology at Universita degli studi di Milano under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Emanuela Corsini. He currently heads a research program at the frontier of chemistry and immunology focused on the development of vaccine adjuvants and immunotherapeutics. His main research interests concern the design, synthesis and biological evaluation of innate immune agonists. A minor part of his research work is dedicated to studying the harmful effects of xenobiotics on the immune and endocrine systems using in vitro and in silico methodologies. Dr. Jakopin has authored more than 60 scientific publications in top journals, more than 30 as first author, and more than 25 also as corresponding author. Dr. Jakopin has actively participated in top research programs at the European (Horizon 2020) and national level, and has obtained funding from the national research agency ARRS as a Principal Investigator on several occasions.
