On Thursday, December 12, 2024, during a ceremony at Fužine Castle, this year’s recipients of the Pregl Award for outstanding doctoral work in the field of chemistry and related sciences were announced. As stated on the website of the National Institute of Chemistry, the “awards for outstanding doctoral work, named after Friderik Pregl, a physician and chemist, and the first and only Slovenian Nobel laureate, not only preserve the rich research heritage of Friderik Pregl but also highlight scientific excellence and celebrate researchers whose innovative contributions have significantly advanced the development of chemistry and related sciences. These awards are also crucial in encouraging young scientists. The Pregl Award has an exceptional motivational effect, showing younger generations of researchers that scientific excellence is recognized and rewarded.”
We are proud that among the recipients in 2024 is our colleague Dr. Jaka Dernovšek, who received the award for his doctoral dissertation titled “Design, Synthesis, and Evaluation of Novel Heat Shock Protein 90 Inhibitors with Antitumor Activity.” The work was conducted under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Tihomir Tomašič and co-mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nace Zidar. We sincerely congratulate all the awardees. Jaka, congratulations!
